5 Memories from India vs England Test Series History

When a new series starts, it will take you back to the memories of the series that were gone. India vs England Test Series History has a heritage that goes back to 1932 when India went to England, 1933 when England came to India. The list of memories between these two world-class sides is very long. The first test between these two sides will be played on February 5 in Chennai.

As the Australia tour of South Africa is canceled due to an increase in cases of Covid-19, New Zealand qualifies for the final of ICC Test Championship at Lords later this year. It will be interesting series from the Test Championship point of view. Now, here are the five memories from Ind vs Eng Test Series History, we have picked from the test series played in India.

India vs England Test Series History: Five Memorial Moment

1.Chennai Test in 2008: After the 26/11 Mumbai attack, England could easily have said that it’s not safe and we are not coming. Soon After the attack, the 6th and 7th ODI between these two sides was called off and the England team went home. However, in the words of Sachin Tendulkar, the England team came back to India and resume their tour. India won the first test match in Chennai by chase down a record-breaking target of 387 runs set by England in the fourth inning.

Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave their side a good start and bring up the 100 runs partnership in 108 balls. Sehwag completed his half-century in just 32 balls and finally fell on 83 runs off 68 balls. India won the match with help of one of Sachin Tendulkar’s classic inning. It may have not the greatest innings that Sachin Tendulkar played. But, the emotion surrounding Sachin’s century. Sachin dedicated his century to the martyrs of the Mumbai attack.

2. Mumbai Test in 2012: The first Test match was in Ahmedabad where the pitch was not quite a turning track. However, Indian spinners had done a good job and India won the first match. Mumbai’s pitch for the 2nd match was an ideal pitch for spinners. It was the track that tells England welcome to India. However, England won the match with the help of Kevin Pietersen’s inning of 186 runs in the first inning.

Indian Team posted a total of 327 runs in their first inning thanks to Chetweshwar Pujara inning of 135. In reply, England responded with 413. Both Cook(122) and Kevin Pietersen(186) smashed a century in their first inning. India bowled out for just 142 runs in their second inning. Monty picked 6 wickets while Swann picked 4 wickets in the 2nd inning. England was given a target of 57, which England’s openers chased down.

3. Mumbai Test in 2016: England made 400 runs in their first inning of the 4th Test match in Mumbai in 2016. India was on 364 for 7, when Jayant Yadav came to bat and Virat Kohli on other ends. Virat Kohli showed his masterclass. Virat Kohli along with Jayant Yadav on this track produced mastery innings of 235. He added 241 runs partnership with Jayant. Jayant Yadav scored 104 runs. After that England bowled out for 195 runs. Ashwin picked six wickets in the 2nd inning. India won the match by an inning and 36 runs. That was a rare occasion when a team scored more than 350 runs in their first inning and still lost the match in India. This was one of the best innings of Virat Kohli from India vs England Test Series History.

4. Kolkata Test in 1985: India had won the first test match in Mumbai by 8 wickets under Sunil Gavaskar captaincy. India was going well in the 2nd match in Delhi, Till, India lost 6 quick wickets in just 28 runs in the 2nd inning. Kapil Dev and Sandeep Patil shot selection was marked out as the main reason for India’s defeat in Delhi Test. The controversy created when Kapil Dev was dropped from the Kolkata Test. Kolkata crowd gone mad and booed Gavaskar for dropping Kapil Dev from playing XI.

However, India discovered a talented batsman in the Kolkata Test match. The Talented Batsman was Mohammed Azharuddin who scored his debut century in Kolkata Test. The match ended in a draw. There are so many memories from India vs England Test Series History.
