Teams like Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Captial have retained most of their core member, While Teams like Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals have released many big stars of their squad. IPL Auction is scheduled to take place on February 18. Now we take a look at five players.

IPL 2021 teams: 5 Surprise Retentions

  1. Jaydev Unadkat: Jaydev Unadkat who had a phenomenal IPL with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, has failed to live up to the expectations when Rajasthan Royals had brought him for a whopping Rs.11.5 crores in the 2018 mega auction. In the next season RR once again brought him for Rs.3 crore. This is the journey of Jaydev in IPL so far. While playing from Rajasthan Royals for the past three years, he has an economy of over 9 in these three years. Everyone thought that Rajasthan Royal will release him ahead of IPL auction. However, RR has shown faith in him once again by retaining him ahead of IPL 2021 auction. (source)
  2. Sarfaraz Khan: Sarfaraz Khan who earned applause from many big cricketers like Virat Kohli and AB Devilliers in 2015 by scoring runs at a quick pace, has fallen off the radar in recent times. Sarfaraz has not performed well in any season since 2015. Last year, He had scored only 33 runs in 5 innings. Many experts were surprised by the KXIP move to retain him ahead of the 14th edition of IPL.
  3. Adam Zampa: Adam Zampa’s most successful IPL season came with Rising Pune Supergiants when he picked 19 wickets in 11 IPL games. However, he was not as effective for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020. RCB has picked him as a replacement for Kane Richardson, who pulled out of the IPL last year. The 28-year old Adam Zampa had picked a couple of wickets in his 3 games. RCB has released star players like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, and Moeen Ali. However, the Franchise decision to retain Zampa, come as surprise for many.
  4. Rinku Singh: Rinku Singh who had debuted in 2017 from the Kolkata Knight Riders side, has scored only 77 runs in 11 games so far in his IPL career. A good IPL team needs decent Indian batsmen in their line-up. KKR surprised everyone by retaining him because there is so much talent present in the domestic circuit.
  5. Chris Jordan: Kings XI Punjab had a very poor last season of IPL. The main reason for their poor performance was death bowling. KXIP had lost three to four games due to their death bowling. The likes of Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan proved highly expensive. KXIP has released their big players. However, the retention of Chris Jordan by Kings XI Punjab has raised quite a few eyebrows as there are many options like Mitchell Starc, etc could be available in IPL 2021 auction. KXIP had brought Chris for Rs.3 crore.
