The Afghanistan Cricket Board has finally announced the Afghanistan Asia Cup Squad 2022. The Cricket Asia Cup 2022 tournament will undergo from August, 27 this year in the United Arab Emirates. This will be the 15th edition of the Asia Cup and will be played in the T20 format. A total of six teams will participate in this marquee tournament with the final showdown will take place on September, 11 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
A total of 13 games will be played across two venues. Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host three games, while Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host 10 games during this tournament. Now, we take a look at the predicted Asia Cup Squad of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan Asia Cup Squad 2022 with Brief Details
The left-handed opening batsman is known for his destructive batting. Zazai has featured in 26 T20 for Afghanistan and smacked 851 runs at an average of 35.50 and strike rate of 144.20.
Najibullah Zadran made his T20 debut for Afghanistan in 2012 and since, then he has played 75 T20 matches. He scored 1385 runs at an average of 32.98 and a strike rate of 139.76.
The talented right-handed wicket-keeping batsman, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has played 24 T20I for Afghanistan and has compiled 595 runs at an average of 24.79 and 131.64. He was also picked by Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2022.
Afghanistan Cricket Board surprised everyone by picking experienced all-rounder Samiullah Shinwari after a gap of almost two years. The right-handed batter has struck 1013 runs in 64 T20 for Afghanistan and also picked 28 wickets with his right-arm leg-spin bowling.
Ibrahim made his first appearance in T20 cricket for Afghanistan in 2019 and since then he played five T20 games. The right-handed batsman has added 60 runs so far in his T20 career.
Afghanistan team will go with a backup wicket-keeper in the form of Afsar Zazai. Afsar has made his T20 debut for Afghanistan in 2013, Unfortunately, he has been featured in only two games since then.
The no. 1 all-rounder in the latest ICC T20 ranking, Mohammad Nabi, is a class player and will lead Afghanistan Asia Cup Squad. The all-rounder made his first appearance for Afghanistan in 2010 and since then he has scored 1620 at an average of 23.48 and a strike rate of 141.61 in 92 T20I. He also picked 79 wickets with his right-arm off-break spin.
The no.3 bowler in T20 cricket, Rashid Khan holds the key for Afghanistan in the upcoming Asia Cup. The right-arm leg spinner has appeared in 65 International T20 games for Afghanistan and has taken 111 wickets at a bowling average of 13.8 and strike rate of 13.30. He also scored 229 runs at a strike rate of 124.50 with the bat.
Since making his debut in 2015, the right-handed batter has 661 runs in 29 T20 games for Afghanistan. He also struck 4 half-centuries so far in his T-20 career.
Karim Janat is another experienced bowling all-rounder that the Afghanistan team has. Karim appeared in 36 T20 games for Afghanistan and scored 345 runs. He also bowls right-arm medium and has picked 31 wickets up to date.
Hashmatullah Shahidi has featured in only six T20 games and scored 48 runs. He made his T20 debut for Afghanistan in 2013.
Fareed Ahmad Malik
The left-arm fast-medium pacer has played 16 T20 games for Afghanistan and picked 21 wickets at a bowling average of 21.76 and strike rate of 15.67.
Naveen-ul-Haq has taken a total of 20 wickets in 15 T20 games for Afghanistan. The right-arm fast-medium bowler has a bowling average of 19.05 and a strike rate of 14.95 in T20I games.
Afghanistan Asia Cup Squad also includes a young right-arm fast-medium bowler, Azmatullah who made his T20 debut this year against Bangladesh. He has picked five wickets so far and also scored 53 runs.
Fazalhaq Farooqi is another young left-arm fast-medium bowler. Farooqi has taken a total of 10 wickets in 8 T20I games for Afghanistan. He was picked by Punjab Kings for the IPL 2022.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a right-arm off-break spinner and made his T20 debut in 2018. He took 34 wickets at a bowling average of 16.97 and strike rate of 16.59 in his T20 career so far.
The exciting young left-arm off-spinner, Noor Ahmad, has featured in only one T20 game for Afghanistan.
