One Such incident has happened when Trinbago Knight Riders take on Saint Lucia Kings in the 9th match of the CPL. Mumbai Indian explosive all-rounder and Trinbago Knight Riders’ captain Kieron Pollard expressed his disappointment with Umpire’s decision in a unique fashion.
CPL 2021: Watch Pollard Walks Away Over Wrong Decision
The incident happened in the 19th over of Trinbago’s inning. Saint Lucia Kings’ bowler Wahab Riaz bowled a wide yorker on the 5th delivery of the over. Trinbago batsman Tim Siefert who was on strike tried to reach toward the ball. He failed to connect the bat with the ball, and it certainly looked like a wide bowl. The commentators also agreed that it should be called a wide delivery. But, Umpire did not call it a wide ball. Both the Trinbago Knight Riders’ batsmen were baffled by this decision. Frustrated, Pollard shows his displeasure by walking towards the thirty-yard circle and stood there for few minutes.
Key Points of the match
Saint Lucia Kings’ captain Du Plessis won the toss at Warner Park and invited Trinbago to bat first in CPL 2021. Trinbago got to a decent start as they scored 40 runs for one wicket in the powerplay. Wahab Riaz provided the only breakthrough in the form of Simmons in the powerplay. Sunil Narine, who was playing in the opening slot, played with a strike rate of under 100. At the same time, Tion scored run and ball. That results in losing three-wicket in quick succession.
However, Kieron Pollard and Tim Seifert ensured that the team would reach a respective total. A 76 run stand between these two explosive batsmen took Trinbago’s total to 158 runs. Kesrick Williams took four wickets for Saint Lucia Kings.(source)
Kings did not get the ideal start as they lost their first wicket in the third over at 14 runs. Andre Fletcher carried his form in the CPL 2021 and looked to bat deep. However, other Saint Lucia Kings’ batsmen did not support him as only two batsmen made it to double figures. Andre Fletcher, who remained not out on 81 runs, failed to take his team home. They lost wickets in a regular interval of time that handed them a 27 runs defeat. Kieron Pollard has been selected man of the match for his brilliant 41 runs off 29 balls with the help of one 6s and six 4s.
