Indian class batter Dinesh Karthik hammered an unbeaten 41 runs in just 19 balls against West Indies in the opening T20I and represent himself as a strong candidate for the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup 2022. Karthik, as always, took some time initially to set him up for the impending blasting with the bat and then whacked the opposition batters to lead India to a total of 190 runs in 20 overs.
On the surface where shot-making was certainly difficult, the Indian finisher backed his talent and launched an attack on the Caribbean bowlers brutally. The Indian spinners rightly respected Karthik’s fine finish in the first innings and restricted the opposition to a score of 122 runs in 20 over the game.
Following the completion of the tournament, Karthik collected his Man of the Match award and said that he is loving this role and is happy to produce crucial performances.
“I have been enjoying it a lot,” said finisher Dinesh Karthik. “It is a very interesting role. It is not something that you can make a consistent impact for the team but on some days, you can make an impact.”
“You need backing from the coach and captain and I have got that in abundance,” added DK.
Notably, Karthik’s blistering execution has helped him to comment on his place on the Indian T20I side. His IPL 2022 season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore turned out to be a turning point in his cricket career where he was struggling to enjoy consistent cricket.
The seasoned glovesman smashed 330 runs from 16 IPL 2022 matches at an impressive average (55) and managed a strike rate (183.33). The game-changing IPL 2022 season showed a way for him to make a comeback on the Indian side.
