Eng vs Ind 2021: India need 157 runs on the Last day

India is in a commanding position in the 1st Test of Eng vs Ind Test series. India is chasing a target of 209 runs in the fourth inning to gain a lead against the host in the ongoing Eng vs. Ind Test series. India needed 157 runs to win the game on the last day of the Test match as India ended Day 4 at 52/1. Earlier England posted a good total of 303 runs thanks to Joe Root’s marvelous hundred and handy contribution from other English batsmen.

Counter Attack by Joe Root

England team started their day on 25 for no loss. Mohammed Siraj gave India an early breakthrough in the morning session. Rory Burns was tempted into the drive and ends up with an outside edge that floated to the keeper. Bruns made 18 runs. In the very next over Jasprit Bumrah found the edge of Zak Crawley’s bat and Keeper took the fine catch. Bumrah builds the momentum with a couple of outswings before drawing one into the fine outside channel to Zak. He added 6 runs to England’s total.

After having lost two wickets early in the morning session, the England team was in a spot of bother. However, England captain Joe Root who walked in at no 4 took the charge on Indian pacers. Root counter punched intent helped him to collect quick runs. Though he had some luck as genuine edge falling short of Indian fielders at slip and a couple of inside edge missing the stumps. On the end hand, Dom Sibley was looked solid in defense as well. The Indian pacers toiled hard but they did not reap any more rewards as both got stuck into the crease.

Joe Root’s masterclass

Jasprit Bumrah broke the partnership in the 2nd session as he dismissed Dom Sibley. Dom Sibley’s resolute inning of 28 runs comes to end. Bumrah bowled a length delivery outside off and Dom tried to play a drive and the ball took the inside edge of Dom’s bat. Next batter Jonny Bairstow who joined Joe Root came out with positive intent. He played his shots and kept the scoreboard ticking at a decent run rate.

Mohammed Siraj sends Jonny Bairstow back into the pavilion with a short delivery. Bairstow smashed the short delivery very well. But holed straight to Ravindra Jadeja. He added 30 runs. Dan Lawrence also looking good for England. However, he too failed to convert his start as Shardul Thakur trapped him in front of the wicket. He scored 25 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Fifer

Indian pacers did a magnificent job in the last session as Thakur strike in the very first over after Tea. He cleaned out Jos Buttler who was looking to build a big partnership with Joe Root. Buttler completely misread the straight delivery. He scored 17 runs. Joe Root fell after a splendid hundred. Jasprit Bumrah took the big wicket of Joe Root. Root has scored a fifty in 1st inning and a hundred in 2nd inning in the 1st Test of Eng vs Ind Test series.

Indian bowlers managed to pick up the last four wickets for under thirty runs. England bowled out for 303. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of bowlers as he took a fifer in this innnig. Shardul and Siraj picked two wickets each. (source)

Indian openers started their 2nd inning on a positive note. KL Rahul took the aggressive role as he scored a stoke-filled knock of 26 runs. Stuart Board bowled a peach of a delivery to dismissed Rahul. Rohit Sharman and Pujara are at the crease. India needed 157 runs with 9 wickets in their hand to win the 1st Test of Eng vs. Ind Test series. While England will try to take the remaining wickets to win the 1st Test of the Eng vs. Ind 2021 Test series.
