England vs India 2021: Rishabh Pant Misses well deserve Century

Rishabh Pant once again proved why he was in India’s playing XI ahead of the likes of Wriddhiman Saha with another fearless knock that provided some sort of respite to India against England in ongoing Test series.

England vs India 2021: Rishabh Pant Inning

Pant came to the crease when India had lost two wickets in quick succession. Rishabh Pant carried on from where he had left off in Australia. Rishabh pant who did not let Nathan Lyon settle on the recent Australia tour, went all guns blazing on English bowlers especially spinner Jack Leach. He smashed five sixes in all arc between deep mid-wicket and long-on off Leach during his inning.

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also treated left-arm spinners like Pant did to Leach. Jack Leach wanted to target rough. However, when every time Jack tried to bowl in the rough, Pant launched the ball with the turn into the stand for the six. His fearless approach helped Pujara who was on the other side. Rishabh Pant along with Chetweshar Pujara brought India back in the game. The Duo helped India from 73/4 to 192/5.

Rishabh Pant’s customary indiscretion became the reason for his fell. Pant missed out on a well-deserving century as he tried to play a big shot on a juicy delivery bowled by Bess. India was on 225/6 when Rishabh Pant dismissed after a good inning of 91 runs off 88 balls including 5 sixes and 9 fours. India finished on 257/6 at the end of the day’s play. India is not yet out of danger as India needs to cross the 379 runs mark to avoid the follow-on. However, England is on the top in the first Test of the series.

Rishabh Pant holds another record to his name. Rishabh Pant has played only three Test innings in India so far. Pant had scored 92, 92, and 91 runs in these three innings. Rishabh Pant becomes the 2nd only Indian after Virat Kohli to scored 50+ runs in the first three consecutive test matches in India. Virat Kohli had scored 52, 63, 58, 103, and 51* in his first five innings in India.

Summary of the Day Three of England vs India 2021 Test series

Indian Team came out on Day 3 with the aim to bowled out England as soon as possible and keep their hopes of winning the Test match alive. Jasprit Bumrah once again provided the first breakthrough of the day with the removal of Dom Bess on first delivery with the new ball. Bumrah bowled a good length ball that came sharply to Bess from the middle stump line and the ball hit on to the pads. Bess’s resolute innings of 34 runs comes to end. Ashwin took the final wicket by departing James Anderson. England innings finally come to end. England had scored 578 runs in their first inning.

India did not get the ideal start they want. Rohit Sharma once again failed and fall on 6. Archer dismissed Rohit. Shubman Gill impressed everyone with his stroke play and looked in great touch. However, Jofra Archer removed Gill on 29 as he tried to chip the ball towards mid-on and failed to keep the ball down. James Anderson dove to his left and took the catch. India was two down for 59 runs at Lunch. After lunch, Virat Kohli and Pujara brought some calmness.

In the post-lunch session, Bess managed to dismiss the big fish. Bess removed Virat Kohli with an absolute beauty. Kohli tried to play the ball that drifts in from the outside off rough and the ball took the inside edge of Kohli’s bat. Ollie who was standing at short leg, caught the catch. Virat Kohli out for 11. In the very next over of his spell, Bess dismissed the Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. However, it was a loose delivery from the Bess. But, Joe Root grabs a stunning catch to remove Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane scored only 1 run.

The heroes of the Sydney Test once again rescued Indian Inning. Pujara played resolute inning while Rishabh Pant played with the way he was known for. India finished on 153 for 4 at Tea. Rishabh Pant and Pujara added 119 runs before Pujara got out in a very unfortunate fashion. Cheteswar Pujara rocked his back foot on a long hop delivery bowled by Bess and hit the ball perfectly towards the square leg.

Unfortunately, the ball hit on the shoulder of Pope who was at short leg and after hitting Pope, the ball lobbed straight to Burns who was at mid-wicket. Pujara played a good inning of 73 runs. Soon after Rishabh Pant also depart as he tried to go for a big heave. (source)

At this stage, India was in deep trouble. However, both Ashwin(8*) and Washington Sundar(33*) played sensibly and remain unbeaten at the end of Day’s play. India is on 257 for 6. Dom Bess had picked four wickets including the big wicket of Virat Kohli. The second new ball will be available after six overs on day four. India will try to bat as long as possible. While England will try to bowl out India. Day four will be important in the context of the England vs India 2021 Test series.
