Former England cricketer Ian Bell has recalled the famous run-out involving him and MS Dhoni during the India tour of England in 2011. During the second test of the four-match series between England and India in 2011, Ian and MS were involved in a heart-touching incident. On the 3rd day of the match just before the Tea, Eoin Morgan hit the ball towards the leg-side which was stopped by Praveen Kumar at the boundary.
However, Bell and Morgan believed that it was a boundary and started to run back to the pavilion. In the meantime, Praveen Kumar threw the ball to Dhoni who passed it to Abinav Mukund and he dismantled the stumps. The Umpire declared Bell run-out. Bell was batting at 137 at that time. The run-out brought immense booing from the English crowd. Dhoni withdrew his appeal and called Bell to continue the inning. Ian scored 156 runs during that inning. While MS Dhoni was awarded the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade award.
Ian Bell- it was a mistake on my behalf
Bell broke his silence on a famous run-out incident. He told about the incident on a Youtube channel.
He said,” Yes, it is interesting. When I look back to that incident, I must have been hungry or something because I literally ran fast for the pavilion when I thought it was 4 if it was either way around, I would have been not out and we would have been fine. But yeah, Dhoni obviously got a ‘Spirit of the Game’ award for the decade. But yeah [it was] a mistake on my behalf, should never do that.
Ian Bell also added that two years from 2011 to 2013 really were my peak. As a team, we have won at home and away too. We won in India and Australia as well.
