Tilak was born in a middle-class family on November 8, 2002, in Hyderabad. His father, who works as an Electrician in Hyderabad, worked very hard to support his son’s cricket career. Varma did his schooling from ‘The Hyderabad Public School’. He joined a cricket academy at an age of 10.

When he was a U-14 player, he and his father have to wake up at 4 a.m. to reach the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium for his practice. The stadium is 30 km away from his house. His father used to drop him and attend work and pick him in the evening. They continuously followed this routine for almost five years and today the effort paid off.
Once Tilak’s bat was broken and his father could not afford it as his father had to look at his cricket expenses as well as his elder’s brother studies. Then, He continued to play the whole U-16 tournament with the same broken bat and made the highest runs in this tournament. When his coach notice, he purchased a new one and he also took care of all of Tilak’s cricket expenses. Varma found a gem of a coach in ‘Salam Bayash’, who supplied all the tools needed to pursed his dream.
Domestic
During the 2018-2019 Ranji Trophy, he got the opportunity to play in the domestic circuit. His first appearance came in the FC match against Andhra on Dec 30, 2018 – Jan 02, 2019. He was also part of the U-19 World Cup-Winning team in 2020, Unfortunately, he did not make any impact in this tournament. Until now, he has played 4 FC matches, 16 List A matches, and 15 domestic T20 games.

Tilak Varma had to face many difficulties in the initial days of his cricketing career. But when Mumbai Indians brought him at 8.5 times greater price than his base price in the IPL mega auction 2022 after beating the likes of Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in a fierce battle.
