IPL Fans have witnessed sensational batting, superb bowling, and astounding fielding in the Indian Premier League. #10. CSK scored 205 against KKR in IPL 2018

Chennai Super Kings, who were playing their first game in front of the home crowd after serving a two-year ban, made came back with a bang in MA Chidambaram stadium. Kolkata Knight Riders posted a good total of 202 against CSK, courtesy to Andre Russell’s extraordinary inning of 88* runs off just 36 balls. Russell smashed eleven 6s and one 4s during his inning.

In reply, CSK off to a fierce start as they added 75 runs in the powerplay. With the help of quickfire cameos from Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, and Sam Billings, CSK who won the match on the penultimate ball of the match, registered the 10th highest run chase in IPL. Sam Billings, who scored 56 runs off 23 balls, was selected for the man of the match award.

#9. KKR scored 206 against RCB in IPL 2019

The Bengaluru crowd witnessed Andre Russell’s storm against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2019. Invited to bat first, RCB posted a total of 205 runs on the scoreboard. RCB was looking in a comfortable position until the arrival of Andre Russell. Kolkata Knight Riders were needed 68 runs in 26 balls when Russell came out to bat. Dre Russ’ mind-blowing assault helped KKR to chase down the target.

This was one of the most dramatic turnarounds ever seen in the history of IPL. He took 13 balls to smashed 48 runs at a tremendous strike rate of 369.23. He faced only 13 balls. With this victory, KKR has registered their highest chase in IPL.

#8. Punjab Kings scored 206 against CSK in IPL 2014

Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), who chase down the target of 205 runs in IPL 2014, takes the 8th spot on the list of the highest run chase in IPL history. Chennai Super Kings added 205 runs with the help of their openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon Mccullum in their 20 overs.

In reply, Punjab lost three wickets inside the powerplay. Glenn Maxwell truly introduced himself on the biggest stage by smashing an astonishing knock of 95 runs off 43 balls against the quality bowling line of CSK. He lit up the Abu Dhabi stadium with his batting. David Miller and George Bailey finished the game for Punjab in the 19th over and registered the 8th highest run chase in IPL history. Maxwell was selected for the man of the match award.

#7. CSK scored 207 against RCB in IPL 2018

Chennai Super Kings chase down the target of 205 runs set by Royal Challengers Bangalore courtesy to MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu. RCB scored 205 on the board, thanks to AB de Villiers’ brilliant inning of 68 runs off 30 balls. He hit eight 6s and two 4s. CSK was off to a poor start and lost four wickets inside 9 overs. When CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came out to bat, CSK was reeling at 74/4 in 9 overs.

Dhoni joined force with Ambati Rayudu, and both started to counter-attack on RCB’s bowlers. They added 101 runs partnership before Ambati got run-out. Dhoni finished the game by hitting a six in the last over. MS smashed 70 runs with the help of seven 6s and one 4s. He hit these runs at a strike rate of 205.88.

#6. CSK scored 208 against RCB in IPL 2012

CSK’s 208-runs chase ranks sixth on the list of the highest run chase in IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore, batting first, scored a mammoth 205 runs, courtesy to brilliant fifties from Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli. RCB opener Mayank Agarwal also scored a quickfire 45 runs off 26 balls. However, they failed to capitalize on the start given by their top three batters. Apart from these three, no batter crosses the two-digit mark against CSK’s bowling lineup.

Chennai Super Kings got the ideal start that was needed to chase down this type of target. CSK’s opener Faf Du Plessis played a fabulous knock of 71 runs. However, their other opener Murali Vijay scored at a strike rate of below 100. MS Dhoni, who scored 41 runs off 24 balls, was dismissed on the last ball of the 18th over.

CSK still needed 43 runs in two overs, and it seemed that the match was in RCB’s pocket. However, Daniel Vettori gave penultimate over to Virat Kohli. Albie Morkel smashed 28 runs in Virat’s over. Even worst happened in the last over, When RCB bowler Vinay Kumar bowled a no-ball in the final over. This was CSK’s highest successful run chase in IPL.

#5. Punjab Kings scored 211 against SRH in IPL 2014

One of the fruitful years for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) was in 2014 when they chased down the target of above 200 runs on two occasions and also entered in the final of IPL 2014. Invited to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad added a total of 205 on the scoreboard with the help of Naman Ojha’s 79 runs on 36 balls.

Having lost Virender Sehwag in the 2nd ball of the match, Hyderabad dents Punjab’s hopes. However, a great batting display from other Punjab batters sealed the match in favor of Punjab. Opener Manan Vohra scored 47 runs off 20 balls. Wriddhiman Saha and Glenn Maxwell smashed 54 and 43 runs, respectively, at a strike rate close to 200. David Miller and George Bailey took Punjab over the line and registered 5th highest run chase in IPL history.

#4. Delhi Capitals scored 214 against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017

With the help of Rishabh Pant’s heroic inning, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) ranks the fourth spot on this list. Invited to bat first, Gujarat Lions did a praiseworthy job of putting up 208 on the scoreboard, with Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik scoring belligerent fifties.

Dehli’s young batting lineup came out all guns blazing in the hunt for the mammoth score. After losing Karun Nair early, two Indian talented and young wicket-keeper batters display a batting masterclass. Rishabh Pant, along with Sanju Samson, put a 143 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Rishabh Pant smashed 97 runs off 43 balls with the help of nine 6s and six 4s. In contrast, Sanju Smason scored 61 runs off 31 balls. Shreyas Iyer and Corey Anderson finished the match in the 18th over.

#3. Rajasthan Royals scored 217 against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008

Fourteen years ago, the Hyderabad crowd witnessed a record chase that would go on to stay the highest run chase in IPL history for twelve years. Deccan Chargers’ team was full of Superstars Cricketers like Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Shahid Afridi, VVS Laxman, Rohit Sharma, and Chaminda Vaas. In comparison, Rajasthan Royals’ squad was brim with new and uncapped players. That’s why this run chase is very special. The second thing that makes this run chase more special is the fact that at that time, chasing a score over 200 was like an impossible task.

A Magnificent hundred from Andrew Symonds helped Deccan Chargers to post a huge total of 215 runs. RR lost their opener Kamran Akmal early in the chase. After that, Yusuf Pathan and Graeme Smith set up the base with their 98 runs partnership. Yusuf Pathan played a superb inning of 61 runs at a strike rate of 217.86. Smith scored 71 runs at a strike rate of 157.78. Shane Warne and Mohammed Kaif’s quickfire cameos helped RR to cross the line with one ball left. This was the highest run chase in IPL history till IPL 2020.

#2. Mumbai Indians scored 219 against CSK in IPL 2021

With the help of Kieron Pollard’s blistering inning, Mumbai Indians’ 219-runs chase ranks second on this list. The second-highest run chase in Indian Premier League came in the El Clasico of IPL in 2021. Invited to bat first on the flat Wankhede Pitch, Chennai Super Kings lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early. Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali added 108 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. Both the batter hit the fifties.

However, the finishing touch was provided by Ambati Rayudu, who smashed the ball with a thrilling strike rate of 266.67. He scored 72 runs with the help of 7 thunderous sixes and 4 beautiful fours. With the brilliance of these batters, CSK registered their highest total against Mumbai Indians, with 218 runs on the scoreboard.

Mumbai Indians were off to a brisk start, courtesy of their opening pair. However, they lost their momentum as they lost three wickets in a span of 13 balls and found themselves on 81/3 halfway. At that stage, CSK seemed to be the favorite for winning the match. However, Pollard had other plans. Pollard unfurled the most brutal of assaults on CSK’s bowlers and smashed 87 runs off 34 balls. #1. Rajasthan Royals scored 226 against Punjab Kings in IPL 2020

Rajasthan Royals, who chased down the target of 224 runs against Punjab Kings in IPL 2020, holds the record for the highest run chase in IPL history. Exactly one year ago, on 27-09-2020, Rajasthan Royals broke their own 12-year record of the highest run chase in the Indian Premier League. Send in bat first, Punjab off to a blistering start as their openers added 183 runs for the first wicket. Mayank Agarwal scored a fabulous century, While KL Rahul scored a fifty. Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran provided the finishing touch with their quickfire cameos. Punjab put up a total of 223 runs on the scoreboard.

Rajasthan Royals lost their star batsman Jos Buttler in the 3rd over. After that, Sanju Samson put up an 81 runs stand with Steve Smith. Steve Smith got out after scoring 50 runs. Rahul Tewatia joined hands with Sanju Samson. The partnership comprised of fabulous hitting from Sanju Samson and a struggling inning from Rahul Tewatia.

After the fall of Sanju Samson in the 17th over, with 63 runs more needed in 23 balls, the target seemed too far from RR’s radar. However, a tremendous turnaround by Rahul Tewatia, who was struggling for the most time during his inning, found his touch in the 18th over. He smacked 30 runs off Sheldon Cottrell’s over with the help of five mighty 6s. Jofra Archer hit two consecutive sixes, while Tewatia hit one six against Mohammed Shami in the next over. RR clinch the victory with three balls left.
