Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 38 runs courtesy of AB and Glenn Maxwell’s splendid knocks. Both played some dynamic shots during their inning and take their team total to 204 runs. KKR tried hard. But they were well behind in the match in all aspects of the game.
AB deVilliers unbelievable shot
In the 18th over of the match, AB produced an astonishing shot on a full toss bowled by Andre Rusell. Virat Kohli’s reaction on it says it all. He smacked unbeaten 76 runs in just 34 balls. He smashed three sixes and nine fours during his extraordinary knock.
RCB dominates Performance with the Bat
Virat Kohli won the toss and option to bat first on the difficult M. A. Chidambaram Stadium pitch. Royal Challengers Bangalore made one change in their playing eleven. While KKR went with the same playing XI. Varun Chakravarthy gave KKR the perfect start as he picked the big wicket of Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in the 2nd over of the inning. Virat Kohli attempted to play the drifting and slow tossed-up delivery towards cover. However, Virat was nowhere near the pitch of the ball and ended up slicing it high. Glenn Maxwell joined hand with Devdutt Paddikal and took the RCB’s inning back on track. The dynamic inning from Glenn Maxwell and anchor inning from Devdutt Paddikal was the highlight of this partnership. In meantime, Maxwell smacked his second consecutive fifty. Both added 96 runs before Devudtt holed out to deep mid-wicket. He scored 25 runs.
Maxwell in company with AB Devilliers started taking out the Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers by bits and pieces. The duo added 53 runs partnership for the fourth wicket. Glenn Maxwell scored a brilliant inning of 78 runs off 49 balls before he was dismissed. He miscued the short ball and sent it up in the air. Harbhajan who was a short fine leg took the catch. After Maxwell’s storm, there was another thunderstorm that was waiting for KKR’s bowlers. Devilliers stole the show in the last five overs. He played one of the best innings on a difficult Chennai wicket. RCB posted a huge total of 204 runs in their 20 overs thanks to AB deVilliers.
Regular wickets hurt KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders off to a decent start as they smacked 57 runs in the powerplay. However, they lost two wickets inside the powerplay. Shubman was the first to get dismissed while playing a lofted shot over mid-on and does not get the elevation. Substitute fielder Christan snatched a stunner at mid-on. Rahul Tripathi who was looking good departed in the last over of the powerplay. He scored 25 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal picked the first wicket in this year’s IPL by removing Nitesh Rana. Rana went for a slog sweep and holed out to mid-wicket.
Chahal picked his second wicket as Dinesh Karthik plumb lbw out. Shakib Al Hasan join forces with Eoin Morgan and started the rescue process. However, they kept losing wickets and lost the match by 38 runs. (source)
