Sri Lanka will lock horns with Namibia in the opening game of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, as per the World T20 2022 Schedule. This will be the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup and will be played in Australia. The same last edition format is followed in this year’s T20 WC by the International Cricket Council, first qualification round will be held and then followed by head-to-head games among teams in their respective group of the Super 12 stage.
The action-packed T20 games will run for 29 days and will be played across seven venues among sixteen teams. Here, we are going to cover the Sri Lanka Cricket Team’s past performance in T20 World Cup and the Sri Lanka team’s schedule in this marquee tournament.
Sri Lanka’s Performance in ICC Men’s World Cup T20
Sri Lanka won the tournament in 2014 by beating India in the Final. Apart from T20 WC 2014 Final, Sri Lanka also played two more Final. They played their first final in 2009 against Pakistan and lost the final by eight wickets. The second final came when they host the tournament in 2012 and West Indies beat them in the WC T20 2012 Final.
Overall, Sri Lanka has played 43 T20 games in ICC WC T20 and won 27 games. They have a win percentage of 63.95 in this tournament.
World T20 2022 Schedule- Sri Lanka Team
Sri Lanka, who failed to qualifier for the Super 12 stage directly, is grouped along with the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, and Namibia in Group A of the qualifier round. Here they played three games and all matches will be played at Kardinia Park, Geelong.
Sri Lanka will meet Namibia in their first game on October 16, starting at 09:30 AM. After that, they will come against the United Arab Emirates in their second game on October 18. They finished their group stage with the game against the Netherlands on October, 20, as per World T20 2022 Schedule.
